Ellenborough At 2022 VBL
Weekend 2 - 19th/20th February

Mixed fortunes for the two Ellenborough Ladies teams in Vets British League action over the weekend of 19th / 20th February at the Derby Arena. This was the second half of the competition started in October 2021. Well done to all the players who represented Ellenborough TTC at VBL this season and thank you for playing. Report from our first weekend can be read at https://ellenboroughttc.com/.../2021-vbl-ladies-vetts.html

Our Ellenborough Ladies 1 team this time consisted of Sara, Tumay, Sandy and Becky. Coming in to the weekend in joint 3rd place in the fiercely fought Premier Division, we knew we’d need a few decent results to stay safe in the division. Fortunately, points were found in our first two key matches of the weekend, when we managed to beat both the strong Bribar Failand side 4-2 (who had been level on points with us following weekend one) and the tough PPong side by a superb 6-0. We managed to consolidate our third place with a valuable 3-3 draw on Saturday afternoon against title contenders Knighton Park. Lots of close games, and on reflection, many 5 game sets went in our favour. Sunday morning we had the other title contender, Market Rasen, to face. A closely fought match finished with a repeat of the 4-2 defeat we’d experienced at their hands in October. We completed the weekend with a 4-2 victory over the Foresters team. The VBL Champions were decided by the final match of the weekend between the title contenders, seeing Market Rasen beating Knighton Park 4-2. Well done Market Rasen on your performance this season.

We are safe to fight another season in Premier. Well played to all involved this year. The scorelines don’t reflect the individual battles and many ‘unexpected wins’ were required to achieve such results. Thanks once again to coach, Roger, for giving up another weekend to support our team.

Full 1st team squad, L to R: Rita, Tumay, Sara, Becky, Sandy (c) .
Rita was non travelling reserve this time.

Our Ellenborough Ladies 2 team consisting of Lynne Trussell, Louise Johnston, Gill Toumbas and June Nelson, played in Division 2 and after the first half in September we finished mid table. The second half played February 19th/20th was disrupted by storm Eunice and this blew away our aspirations to stay in the division because our number 1 player Lynne was unable to play in the Saturday morning session.

We all played well taking many games to 5 sets but unfortunately, we had to win our last game against Cippenham but just missed out and because of this we will be in Division 3 next season. There were some very good individual performances resulting in Lynne being player of the Match three times and June Nelson, once. Louise and Gill performed so well with good wins and many results didn’t reflect our performance as so many games went to 5 sets.

We are determined to stay together and regain our place again in Division 2.
