Double Gold for Denise Payet in School Games

On Friday 2nd September the School Games started at Loughborough University. Table Tennis was one of twelve sports making up this Annual Event.

Day 1 was the team group stages with Ellenborough's Denise Payet taking part for South East England. Also in South East's group were North East England, North West England and Northern Ireland.

The other group was made up of teams from Midlands, Scotland, South West and Wales.

Day 1 - Team Group Stage

Defending champions South East girls are well placed to hold on to their titles after day one of the 2016 School Games.

They topped their group to advance to Saturday’s semi-finals and the chance to get on the podium.

The three wins were 7 - 0 against Northern Ireland, 4-3 against North East and 6 - 1 against North West. Payet winning all eight matches, six singles and two doubles Partnered with Kate Cheer.

As well as Denise & Kate the other girls taking part for South East were Isabelle Joubeily and Zahna Hall.

Day 2 - Team Semi's & Finals

In the Semi Final South East played Scotland who finished Runners up of the second group. South East had a comfortable 4 - 0 win.

In the final South East played a strong Midlands team, eventually winning 4 - 2 and taking the title for the fourth year running.

Day 3 - Girls Individual Competition

Of the four girls representing South East only Isabelle Joubeily didn't make it to the Semi-finals losing in the quarter final to Jasmine Wong of the North East.

In the semi's Denise played team mate Zahna Hall and made it to the final 3 - 0. In the other semi Kate Cheer beat Rebecca Finn of Northern Ireland 3 - 2 to set up an all South East final between Denise and Kate, team mates and doubles partners.

Kate started better and won the first 11- 5, however Denise hit back with the next three games 11 - 7, 11 - 7 & 11 - 2.

This years win makes up for Denise's defeat in the final 12 months ago.

Overall Champions

When all the points from the team and individual events were totted up, South East were the overall winners.
