2016 Junior Open Day

Saturday 18th June.

The Ellenborough Table Tennis club held its annual open day to celebrate the achievements of the club juniors during the 2015/16 season. The Deputy Mayor of Enfield Cllr. Christine Hamilton joined the celebrations as well as presenting a number of trophies to the winners.

This was an exceptional year for the club with the girls “A” team winning the Junior British League Premier Division. This event is organised by Table Tennis England and is considered the principle national competition with the country’s top players taking part.

Denise Payet represented England and won a bronze medal in the Cadet under 15, 6 nations International, teams came from France, Sweden, Germany and Denmark.

Sophie Chiang and Amelia Chan were successful in the International Schools Championship winning the under 11 and under 13 competitions respectively.

Other Achievements

Sept 2015 – Denise Payet representing South East England Girls retains The School Games title.

Dec 2015 – In December Denise Payet along with Marcus Giles met the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge at a SportsAid event. They played a mixed match in which Denise partnered by the future King of England teamed up against Marcus and the future Queen of England.

East Midlands 4 Star success for Denise in the Cadets U15

Ellenborough Girls ‘A’ team were triumphant at the Junior British League Premier Division winning the title by 2 points over Burton Uxbridge 1, Denise Payet was an ever present player throughout the season.

Ellenborough Girls ‘B’ team also had success and they won the Junior Girls Division 3, this was a hard fought win as 3 teams finished on 15 points, in the end they won by just 2 sets/games over the second placed team. The team consisted of Amelia Chan, Zoe Davis and Jasmine Chan

Ellenborough Boys team finished a very respectable 4th place in the Junior Boys Division 2A, the team consisted of George Coulson, Stuart Herriott, Kevin Fang and Lehman Chan.

Feb 2016 – Denise Payet becomes the first Cadet National Cup champion with Amelia Chan coming 6th in a field comprising of the 10 best Cadet U15 players in England.

Mar 2016 – Amelia Chan and Denise Payet representing Middlesex 1 won the Cadet U15 Division 1B.

April 2016 – Sophie Chiang takes Bronze in the Primary Schools International

Sophie Chiang and Amelia Chan both were successful in the International Schools Championships and won the U11 and U13 competitions respectively

May 2016 - Bitter sweet weekend for Denise Payet and Amelia Chan at the Junior & Cadet National Championships. Denise had a difficult day on Saturday in the Juniors and struggled in her group games, she failed to progress and was eliminated from the event. On Sunday both girls fared better and made it out their Cadet U15 groups. Amelia unfortunately lost in the first round, however Denise went on to retain her title in her last year as a U15 Cadet.

June 2016 – Denise Payet representing England wins Bronze in the Cadet U15 6 Nations International. Teams competing were from France, Sweden, Germany and Denmark.

Jack Petchey Individual finals wins for Sophie Chiang at the U11 Girls event and Amelia Chan won the U13 Girls event.

Sophie Chiang becomes Under 11 & Under 12 National Champion.

It’s been a very successful year for the Juniors with the highlights being the Ellenborough Girls ‘A’ team winning the Junior British League Premier Division, and Denise & Sophie winning National Championships.
